Celebrating Success: HCPC's People Strategy receives glowing audit results

​During a period where talent retention is vital, the heartbeat of any successful organisation lies within its people. Here at the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), this belief is a guiding principle, as evidenced by the recent audit conducted by BDO.

Commissioned as part of HCPC's 2023/24 internal audit plan, BDO's review delved into the details of our People Strategy. This strategy, spanning the years 2021-2026, aligns seamlessly with our overarching mission of becoming a high-performing, adaptable, and compassionate regulator.

Divided into distinct phases, the strategy's initial years focused on introduction, while subsequent years emphasised embedding its core principles. Since its establishment, we have has worked to implement new initiatives, enhance existing programs, and foster innovative ways of working, all aimed at nurturing a high-performing workforce.

The purpose of BDO's audit was clear: to provide comprehensive assurance regarding HCPC's People Strategy, particularly against the backdrop of evolving market conditions where employee retention is more crucial than ever. Key areas under scrutiny included succession planning, learning, and development initiatives, pivotal aspects in securing HCPC's talent pipeline.

After a thorough examination, BDO's verdict speaks volumes: HCPC boasts robust control measures, ensuring the efficacy of its People Strategy. We were awarded the highest assurance rating, , which affirms our commitment to realising its strategic objectives and fostering a conductive work environment.

This achievement underscores the HCPC's unwavering dedication to its workforce's well-being and professional growth. It reaffirms HCPC's status as not just a regulatory authority but a nurturing ground for talent, where individuals are empowered to thrive and contribute meaningfully.

Through strategic initiatives aimed at recruitment, retention, and talent management, the HCPC has continued to succeed in developing a dedicated team of professionals who are passionate about protecting the public.

One of the most commendable aspects of the HCPC's people strategy is its emphasis on professional development and lifelong learning. I have had the pleasure of discussing the impact this has had with several participants. Furthermore, the HCPC's dedication to fostering a culture of inclusivity and equality has been instrumental in creating a supportive and collaborative work environment where every individual feels valued and respected.”
