Supporting emerging leaders at the HCPC

At the HCPC, we are committed to investing in our people, to support them to carry out their roles in the best way possible, so that we can provide a high-quality service for registrants and the public in our role to protect the public.

The Aspiring to Management (ATM) programme is part of this commitment. Developed and delivered by our in-house Learning & Development team, it provides a structured pathway for colleagues to move into their first supervisory or people management role. But the programme isn’t just about developing competencies—it’s about exploring what it really means to be a manager at the HCPC. It provided a safe and supportive space for colleagues to learn from each other, challenge assumptions, and reflect on their leadership styles.

We'd like to congratulate our latest cohort of staff who have completed the programme.

Here’s what they had to say:

Participants engaged in reflective practice, peer group learning, mentoring, self-study, practical assignments, videos, in-class discussions, and practice exercises. More than just another training course, the programme gives colleagues the space to explore what management means at the HCPC. It also brings together like-minded individuals to share experiences and gain confidence in their leadership potential.

It’s also already making an impact where 36% of participants (four individuals) have since gone on to secure new internal roles. While not all were management roles, these moves mark meaningful progress in their professional journeys, and it highlights the programme and their own commitment to personal growth.

The programme is aligned to our People Strategy and management competency framework, particularly our ambition to “build a healthy, capable, resilient and sustainable organisation". It focuses on building confidence and capability, helping future managers understand what it means to lead in line with our values, culture, and strategy. Participants explore how to support others, foster collaboration, and drive personal and team development – facilitated all within a supportive learning environment.

The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive and we're already looking to the next programme, which is just one of the ways we're continuing to build a capable, engaged and forward-thinking organisation here at HCPC.

By investing in programmes like ATM, we are not only strengthening our leadership pipeline, we are reinforcing our commitment to developing people from within and building a future-ready organisation.

If you’re interested in joining a workplace that values learning, growth, and inclusion, explore our careers at the HCPC and be part of our journey.
